The opening of lenses is expected to make it easier for brands experiment with them and buy sponsored lenses through Snapchat's automated ad platform. "Advertisers can develop a Lens in as little as a few days by working with a Lens Studio Partner or directly in the studio," Snapchat said. The Lens Studio is meant to shrink that development time and eliminates the minimum ad spending requirement, according to people familiar with the situation. Brands paid minimums of $300,000 to create lenses, a process that sometimes took up to two months. Snapchat's offering has been strictly controlled until now. Snapchat's rivals raced for more open augmented reality tools, however, to hand to digital artists and ad agencies to work on their own. In order to have truly restorative programs (programs that strive for consistency between their stated values and their real-life practices) the authors offer some ways to integrate restorative practices and values into the strategies used to design, implement, and assess them. This Little Book strives to find ways to shrink that gap and to bring our practice and the structures and methods that employ them into closer alignment with restorative values. ![]() ![]() As the authors know from experience, there is often a gap between values and the reality of day to day practice. There are other experiments in restorative justice that move this work into community settings, with a focus on healing and the creation of more empathic relationships. Some of these programs are designed to address incidences of harm that fall within large systems (family group conferencing, victim offender dialogue, circles, COSA, etc.) or in schools where they are often focused on addressing incidences of harm in an effort to change the over reliance on suspensions and expulsions as a way to modify student behaviors. This complex mix has generated an array of programs that utilize restorative ideas and practices in a wide variety of ways, such as court diversion, deeply spiritual circle work, and national and international truth and reconciliation projects. In the past twenty-five years there has been an explosion of programs, projects, and initiatives that use the terms "restorative justice" or "restorative practices." This reflects multiple trends: the failures and inhumanity of justice system policies and practices the unfairness and ineffectiveness of "zero tolerance" and other punitive measures adopted in our schools, and the positive impact of those who have promoted restorative practices for the past several decades around the world. Today you can find men’s watches in a wide range of styles, materials, types and functions to suit any number of personal tastes. Men’s watches continued to advance, fueled by the soldiers’ “trench watches” of World War I, the advent of watches powered by electricity in 1957 and the introduction the quartz watch in 1969. ![]() ![]() Wristwatches for men eventually exploded on the scene, thanks to Santos, the founding of London’s Wilsdorf and Davis in 1905, and the opening of Switzerland’s Rolex in 1908. This led to the first men’s wristwatch prototype known as the Santos wristwatch. The pilot asked his pal Louis Cartier to create a wristwatch he could wear while flying, one that let him time his flight while keeping both hands on the aircraft’s controls. Men’s wristwatches came into vogue with help from Brazilian aviator Alberto Santos Dumont. Although wristwatches were first commercialized in 1880 when 2,000 were ordered by Kaiser Wilhelm I for naval officers in Germany, men didn’t fully embrace the concept until a couple of decades later. Minute hands were added in 1680, followed by self-winding capabilities in 1780. Design and time-keeping abilities were poor the devices were more for status than function. Pocket watches and clock-watches worn around the neck were introduced in the early 1500s. They can be picked up anywhere and will perform their role, keeping you on track. This opened the door for the development of mechanical clocks, which debuted throughout London and Paris in the 1700s. A watch is something one wears to tell the time. Just about everyone has one or more watches or has taken one look at his/her. Dutchman Huygens kept at it for decades, eventually producing a portable clock that relied on a spring and balance-wheel regulator. Nowadays, a wristwatch is one of the most widely-used time-keeping devices. More so, they are more durable if compared to automatic watches. Quartz watches offer accuracy at an affordable price. Galileo Galilei helped further advance the development of timepieces with his studies on pendulums in the late 1500s, paving the way for Christiaan Huygens’ creation of the pendulum clock by 1656. Quartz watches use quartz crystal oscillation and an integrated circuit to keep time. Mechanical clocks entered the scene around 1300, with weight-driven timepieces eventually developing into clocks relying on mainsprings for power. Water played a huge role in time measurement with Japan’s water clock circa 671 and the China’s water-powered astronomical clock tower in 1090. Timepieces were subsequently devised using various materials, such as oil, candles and water. Sundials get credit as the first devices used to measure time more than 10,000 years ago, while ancient Egyptians used the positioning of the stars to measure time at night. That mindset changed rather quickly and dramatically, but the overall history of timepieces is one that spans thousands of years. In fact, many men initially eschewed the wristwatch when it was introduced in the early 1900s, saying they’d “sooner wear a skirt” than put a timepiece on their wrist.
